What You Can Expect
It’s completely natural to feel a little nervous before your first hypnosis session.
Many people wonder:
- What will hypnosis feel like?
- Will I lose control?
- Will I remember everything afterwards?
- What if I uncover something upsetting?
- Could the experience feel frightening?
These are very common concerns.
My role is to ensure that you feel safe, informed, comfortable and fully supported throughout the entire process.
So let me gently explain what you can expect.
The Pre-Talk
At the beginning of your session, we spend time talking together about:
- the issues bringing you to therapy
- your goals and desired outcome
- your personal history
- and any questions or concerns you may have
We also discuss hypnosis itself and clear up any fears or misconceptions.
There is never any pressure or rush.
Hypnosis only begins once you feel completely comfortable and reassured.
This part of the session is known as the Pre-Talk.
Entering the Hypnotic State
When you’re ready, you’ll be invited to recline comfortably in the chair -- or if we’re working online, to settle comfortably onto your bed, sofa or recliner at home.
Using gentle guidance and relaxation techniques, I help you enter a deeply relaxed hypnotic state.
This state is known as somnambulism -- the deepest level of hypnosis where you are still able to:
- speak clearly
- think
- feel
- answer questions
- and remain fully aware throughout the process
Contrary to popular belief, hypnosis is not sleep and you are never unconscious or out of control.
Most people describe the experience as feeling:
- deeply relaxed
- mentally calm
- physically heavy
- peaceful
- and highly focused inwardly
You can still move, cough, adjust your position or ask for water if needed at any time.
What does hypnosis actually feel like?
Hypnosis doesn't feel like anything.
One of the biggest surprises for many clients is how natural hypnosis feels.
Your mind usually remains very clear throughout the session, whilst your attention becomes more focused on your inner experience rather than the outside world.
Some people see vivid images.
Others sense emotions, memories, thoughts or simply “know” information internally.
There is no right or wrong way to experience hypnosis.
Everyone experiences it slightly differently.
Will I remember the session?
Yes -- most people remember the majority of the session afterwards.
However, some details may gradually become less vivid over time, rather like remembering a dream after waking.
You remain aware throughout the process and are never made to do, say or experience anything against your wishes.
A safe and collaborative process
Whether we are working with Hypnotherapy or QHHT®, the experience is always collaborative, respectful and centred around your wellbeing.
You remain in control at all times.
My role is simply to guide you safely through the process and help you access the subconscious insights, understanding and healing that may already exist within you.

Begin The Change This June For the month of June, I’m offering new clients 50% off their first 5-PATH Regression Hypnotherapy session. 5-PATH works by helping us identify and resolve the underlying cause of an issue, rather than simply managing symptoms. And without the side-effects of medication! This offer is being made to help people take that first step at a time when finances are understandably tighter for many. There's absolutely no pressure to continue beyond the first session if you don’t feel the approach is right for you. As always, I offer a free confidential 30-minute Zoom chat before booking, so we can discuss your situation and answer any questions you may have. How to book
